Knitters

This article is part of a series that is supposed to give you a better understanding of this topic.

When many people think of knitters, they think of grandmothers, rocking chairs and sweaters that never quite fit right. In reality, knitting has once again become a popular hobby, and the newest wave of people taking up the needles tends to be women under the age of 30. Products like knitting looms and knitting machines have expanded the hobby to include those who normally have trouble using knitting needles. Knitting has become both a creative process and a social event, with new knitting clubs emerging every day. While the reasons for the new popularity of knitting are varied, they all merge to create a modern pastime that is perfect for everyone.

One thing that seems to be influencing the resurgence of yarn crafts, including crocheting and knitting, is the incredible variety of yarns available. Gone are the days of plain pastel yarn, limited in content and brand. Today, wool yarns can be found in a variety of weights and sizes, including super chunky, as well as with built-in color schemes, where one skein has several coordinating or contrasting colors.

Cotton yarn, too, comes in multi-color skeins and various textures, including chenille. Among the most popular yarns, though, are the novelty yarns that are fuzzy, nubbly and even glittery. Lion Brand Yarn, for example, makes suede, ruffle, boucle and fur yarns. Some of the new novelty yarns require knitters to know special knitting techniques beyond the basic stitches, but the results produced are well worth the effort.

Knitters are no longer just knitting afgans and doilies. Knitting books are now filled with modern patterns for items, that at one time, would never have been considered something that could be knitted. Today, lingerie items, cases for cell phones and much more are being produced by those who love to knit. This has brought new life to knitting and those individuals who are new to the craft. Many popular magazines are now offering patterns for knitting objects that appeal to younger individuals and have helped to invoke the desire for younger people to take up the hobby.

Whether creating gifts, relaxing or sprucing up a dull wardrobe, knitting makes it all a fun, creative process, and many people are beginning to enjoy the hobby. Knitting clubs and online groups have turned the once solitary pastime into a social activity, making it even more enjoyable for some. Despite the surge in popularity, there are always some traditional knitters who take issue with novelty yarns, knitting machines and looms, and some of the fashions and accessories currently available. However, those who are new to the craft should not let that discourage them from taking up a wonderful hobby that serves so many functions, nor should they feel forced to only make sweaters and booties. Knitting has something to offer everyone, and what can be made is entirely up to the individual crafter.

Today's Tip On Knitting

In addition to repair, maintenance and basic programming of machines, human employees serve a vital role in the knitting factory. Knitting machines do not produce knit shirts, bags or any other type of knitted product. Instead, they produce rows of knitted fabric. Employees must take these rows of knit fabric to a laundry area, where they are washed and dried to ensure that products made from the fabric can be laundered without shrinking or damage.
